Review of the Huawei Watch 3: Stunning Display, Fluid UI, and Reliable Fitness Tracker

watch

The business had been concentrating on other categories for growth and sustenance after Huawei’s failure in the smartphone market, with IoT as a major priority area. Huawei was among the top three smartwatch manufacturers in H1 2020, but it was the only top-five brand to experience a fall by H1 2021 due to its inability to maintain its growth. However, the Chinese juggernaut has continued to innovate and introduce new products despite this decline. Its resiliency is demonstrated by the introduction of the Mate 40 & P50 series, Freebuds 4 TWS, foldable, and smartwatches, among other gadgets. The huawei watch3 and Watch 3 Pro versions were the first to ship with HarmonyOS 2.0 when the firm introduced them in June 2021.

The Huawei Watch 3 has a price of £349.99 (about $500/€400), and it includes a sleek new design, health-focused functions, an eSIM connection, and many other things. Under the hood, HarmonyOS 2.0 hopes to improve upon Huawei’s previous LiteOS and compete with Apple’s watchOS and Google’s WearOS. But has Huawei been a success? I’ve been using the Huawei Watch 3 for about six months, and this is my long-term review of it.

Huawei Watch 3: High-End Design, Robust Construction, with a Fantastic Display

  • 46.2mm casing, 1.43-inch AMOLED display.
  • includes ceramic and stainless steel components.
  • crown with a 3D rotation and a side button.

Huawei kept its design ethos the same and carried over the Watch GT series’ circular form into the Watch 3. The stainless steel casing and ceramic back, which give it a luxury look and feel as well as a durable structure, are two examples of the high-quality materials used by Huawei. The style I’m evaluating in black has a sophisticated appearance and works with both formal and informal attire. Further enhancing its appearance and feel is the display glass’s elegantly curved edges and piano black finish.

The right side would benefit from a digital crown. The app launcher is opened with a single push, and the screen, user interface, and notifications are scrolled through by rotating the crown. The haptic sensation you receive when you rotate the crown adds to the enjoyment of the experience. A physical button that serves as a shortcut for training modes is located below the crown.

Storage Space on Board for Offline Music During Workouts

The 16GB internal storage space on the Huawei Watch 3 may be used to store your music, apps, watch faces, and other items. Around 9.5GB of the total space is usable, with the remaining space being occupied by the OS and default programs. Now, even though you can download songs to the watch for offline listening, this feature is only functional while connected to an Android smartphone. The songs must be on your smartphone, and you must link them to your Huawei ID, to transfer them via the Huawei Health app. But keep in mind that it takes a little while because it will be transferred via Bluetooth.

To give you a general idea, sending two MP3 recordings totaling 21MB took five minutes. Therefore, it can take hours if you’re transferring your whole music collection. In a perfect world, if your library had at least 100 songs, it would be preferable to transfer 10 to 15 songs every day. Then, without having to bring your smartphone, you can link your TWS to the smartwatch, go on a run, and listen to your favorite music. Additionally, the watch has Huawei Music integrated into it, which enables you to stream music from the library online as long as Wi-Fi or an eSIM connection is active.
