Most people might be fine with no new friends, but I’m not like that kind of person who enjoys their life alone without friends. Like a whole chunk of our demographic, I work from home, I’m busy, and I’m grown. After college, it can be hard to make and foster new friends, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t necessary and meaningful.
As a human, I require friendships. You might have a different perspective, but this is mine. Friendships are as vital to my health and well-being as peanut butter sandwiches and ginormous bowls of pasta with too much cheese on top. Acquire new friends, or perish trying.
After college, it can be hard to make and foster new friendships, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t necessary and meaningful.
Yet the thought of reaching out to people can scare the shit out of me. I don’t know you! You might reject me! In my head, I picture myself on the playground attempting to play Red Rover and getting shot down for being out of shape.
Here are some of the tips which you can follow to make new friends without feeling creepy:
Join Similar Interest Conversation on Facebook Groups and Twitter Communities:
There are Facebook groups for everything. From book clubs to hairstyles, gaming to filming, and entrepreneurship to create your own agency. You can join similar interest Facebook groups that are fun but also attract a similar type of person that you think you’ll get along with.
Know what it is that you actually like before jumping into any random group, or else you’ll just become a weirdo there who no one talks to. Try to engage yourself in group posts once you’re approved for the group. And you can engage with a group post by commenting on them.
But try to make your comment very interesting. Like ones that would attract the other user to reply back to you or your comment. Then maybe you can find common relations with that person.
Use Online Forums and Chat Rooms:
Online Chat rooms and forums are great places to start a discussion and make new friends. Forums like Reddit and the Chive bring together a variety of people from around the world to talk about interesting (and sometimes weird) things.
When you start discussions or comment on other people’s questions, you can start to form connections with new people.
Sometimes online friendships can be better than in-person ones because it takes more time to get to know each other before meeting up, which helps weed out any potential duds.
Also, chat rooms play a big role in online friendship. you can join different community chat rooms which are according to your interest.
I never thought I’d join an online chat room site because I have had perspectives like that chat rooms aren’t safe or people who use them are just bored. But, since I joined the CMX Chat online chat room it’s COMPLETELY changed my view of chat rooms. Now I genuinely believe that it’s actually a fun place and is also a great way to meet new people.
You don’t have to be super serious about it and you can meet people there that you probably wouldn’t have run into in your normal day-to-day activities. Just because some of the people on those sites are looking for relationships, doesn’t mean that you can’t just use them as a tool to meet new friends.
Use Social Friends Related Apps to Make New Friends:
If you have a smartphone, you probably have one or more of the many apps that help you make friends.
I personally use the Instagram app, which is great for making new Instagram friends. I can just open up the app and start following people on my follower list.
Then I can start looking at their follower lists, and making a few new friends if I want to go that route or just see what their interests are before jumping in and getting friendly.
I’m even friends with some people I’ve never met in real life. But because of the app, we can communicate a little bit before meeting up.
Final Thoughts:
In Conclusion, you can use the above-mentioned ways to make new friends. It’s important to know what type of friendship you’re looking for. If it’s a relationship that lasts, then take your time and get to know them on a deeper level. For instance, if someone had a positive response to a post I wrote, that’s a good sign. If someone makes you feel comfortable and you feel like you can be yourself, then that’s a great sign.
