How to Become a Successful Fashion Designer

If you’re anything like me, you live and breathe fashion. You’re constantly inspired by so many new designs running through your head, so many that you can’t write them down fast enough as they arrive. You’re constantly dreaming of the day when your fashion is presented on the runway, the lights shining brightly, the cameras flashing everywhere, and the audience completely mesmerized by your incredible designs. You can’t stop thinking about the day you open a magazine or watch the Oscars and see a famous celebrity in one of your stunning designs. Your bookshelf is filled with fashion books and magazines, and you can’t resist visiting textile stores to check out the latest fabrics, decorative beads, rhinestones and embellishments.

It is this ever-present dream of being a successful fashion designer that makes you work day and night on your designs, in most cases for many years without pay and with a job to pay the pills, which is brutal torture if you can only think of living and working in the fashion industry.

Famous fashion designers come from all walks of life, there is no system to follow to become the next famous fashion designer. Some have graduated from an elite fashion school, while others have never attended a fashion school. Some have interned at a fashion house and others have created their own designs in the basement.

The one thing that all of these fashion designers have in common is that they had a great passion for fashion, they were able to design fashion that was in demand, and they came in contact with someone who gave them the opportunity to break into the fashion industry. To become a successful fashion designer, it is important that you make yourself and your designs as widely known as possible, because how is anyone going to know about your fashion if they can’t see it?

To make your fashion known, there are a few ways:

  1. we are not always good at everything. Some of us are good at designing clothes but lack sewing and pattern skills. This is where you can team up with someone who shares your passion for fashion and has the skills you lack. By bringing different skills together, you can create a real product that can be seen.
  2. With a fashion line of 14 outfits, you can apply to your local fashion week. In the US, there are fashion weeks in New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco. These fashion weeks attract many editors, journalists and local celebrities to see your fashion and possibly get you the attention you need to become famous.
  3. Many nightclubs in the city hold fashion shows. Find out which nightclubs host fashion shows and contact them to find out how you can get involved in one of the upcoming shows.
  4. Locate fashion boutiques that specialize in the fashions you design. If you see that your clothes fit well in the store, find out who the owner is and ask him if he would be willing to offer some of your fashion for sale in his store. You will be amazed at how many store owners are willing to work with you.

I walked around San Francisco’s Nob Hill District and displayed my fashion after visiting four boutiques and talking to them about my product. Having your fashion on display gives you valuable insight into whether or not your designs are in demand and whether you need to change your designs to increase sales.

It also allows you to showcase yourself to the public for free. If your fashion sells, you can present this to investors who are willing to invest in your collection if you can demonstrate a strong demand for your fashion.

If you are struggling to design your fashion because you lack the capital, connections or required skills, you can visit the website: [], where you can create a profile for free, stating what you need and who you hope to connect with to make your fashion dream a reality. You can also search and connect with others who, like you, have created a profile that offers opportunities with whom you can work together to achieve great success in the fashion industry.
