New Whatsapp Chatbot’ Bol Behen’ To Answer Young Girls’ Questions On Health

Download Music

WhatsApp has a new chatbot for girls and young women called ‘Bol Behen’. The chatbot is in collaboration with a non-profit organisation called Girl Effect and aims to empower girls to take charge of their health and wellbeing. They can ask the chatbot questions surrounding women’s health that they might otherwise feel uncomfortable asking and seek answers to.

What Is Bol Behen For?

The new chatbot’s name translates to ‘Ask, sister’ or ‘Speak, sister’, thereby creating an air of sisterhood to make the user feel at ease to ask their question/s. Bol Behen is a safe space to ask questions about women’s physical health, love, relationships, sexuality and reproductive health. The bot is equipped to answer in both English and Hindi, making it accessible to girls and women from diverse backgrounds and eliminating language as a barrier to knowledge and information. Bol Behen is a great initiative to reduce the shame and embarrassment that surrounds the topics related to women’s health. It’s important that from a young age, girls be taught to own and speak up for their health and care for it as much as anything else. Bol Behen is conceptualised to appear as an older digital sister who has been there and is ready to offer advice and answers without embarrassing the inquirer.

Who Can Access It And How?

While all girls and young women can chat with Bol Behen for their questions and doubts, it primarily aims to target those who reside in regions with low digital literacy and access to slower internet speeds and low-end smartphones. Its availability on WhatsApp eases access for all regions since WhatsApp is available even on the most basic smartphones and works with decent internet speeds. You can chat with Bol Behen in one of two ways: you can use WhatsApp and text ‘Hi’ at +91-730449661, or you can visit the invite link here.

This is Bol Behen’s second collaboration with a Meta-owned company, the first being its launch on Facebook messenger in 2020.
