What is Satin Paint Best Used For?

When it comes to owning a house and making the house your home; most of the time, purchasing the house is the easy part. After buying the house comes the decoration or beautification of the house. While some people leave this tedious task to interior decorators, most people try to save a few bucks and do it themselves.

When it comes to decorating your home, one of the major things that stick out is your paint. Your choice of paint and paint colour is something everyone gets to see even before entering your home. If you have ever chosen a paint colour by yourself then you’ll know it’s often not an easy decision to make as there are different types of paints and paint colours. Sometimes you might even have to study colour charts in order to get the perfect hue and tone for your room or home.

After choosing the paint colour, you might think it’s time to take a break and celebrate your success but you are not there yet. You have to also choose a paint finish. There are different types of paint finishes; however, in this guide, we’ll not be focusing on all of them. We’ll be focusing on the Satin paint finish.

At the end of this blog post, you would have learnt about what the Satin paint is, its benefits, and what they are best used for.

What is Satin Paint?

Satin is a type of paint sheen that falls in between (directly in the centre) exterior or interior paint sheens. When compared to the eggshell paint finish, it has a glossier look and the paint produced is flatter than semi-gloss paint.

Unlike semi-gloss and gloss paints that produce reflections under low lights, Satin paints do not produce reflections under low lights—however, in bright lights or certain angles, Satin’s shine will become visible.

What are the Benefits of Using Satin Paint?

Multi-surface application

When working on large paint projects, you’ll quickly realize that you’ll have to switch paints often and not only does that slow the speed of the work but it also drives up the cost. Hence, having a single paint that can be used on different types of surfaces will quickly become valuable.

Yes, it’s true that one paint can’t be used for every application but then, some paints are better at it than others. Paints that fall in the middle gloss ranking such as Satin are well-suited for different uses.

Cleanability

Satin paint is an excellent choice for areas like your kitchens and your children’s rooms because they clean up well. Satin paints have tight pores which mean that dirt, food stains, and liquids will clean up better than with flatter paints.

This feature (tight pores) of Satin paint makes it a great moisture-resistant paint choice for walls in some kitchens and bathrooms. Additionally, asides from the walls of your home, Satin paints can also be used for your bathroom ceilings if you are worried about mildew and mould.

Easier application

Applying Satin paint to surfaces is relatively easy; although not as easy as flat paints, still you wouldn’t have to worry about the paint taking too long to dry out—with its rapid drying time (30 minutes or less) and resistance to lap marks, you can complete your work in little time.

Under optimal conditions, Satin paints take about an hour to dry and if when applying the paint, you roll off or brush a wet edge then the chances of lap marks appearing will be very slim.

What is Satin Paint Best Used For?

Satin paints are best used for living rooms, hallways, family rooms, kitchens, and bedrooms. They can be used on your ceilings as well. Since Satin paints are a little more hard-wearing than eggshells, it makes them perfect for dining areas and children’s bedrooms. What’s more? Satin paint finishes are strong or tough enough to be used on the trim.
