Setting up a self-directed IRA backed by gold or other precious metals involves completing an application, coordinating with your new IRA custodian to establish the account, and then funding the account.
You can add money to your new self-directed IRA from a checking or savings account or by transferring or rolling over funds from an existing retirement account — such as a Roth, SEP, or SIMPLE IRA; a 401(k), 403(b), 457(b), or pension plan; or a Thrift Savings Plan.
Once you’ve funded the self-directed IRA account, you’ll be ready to select your physical precious metals.
