I’ll cover every aspect of the Huawei MateBook D 15 laptop in this review. The 2019 Huawei ban forced the formerly dominating smartphone maker to shift its attention to other items. Despite continuing to produce phones, very few of them were favorably received on the international market due to the absence of Google services.
We have seen a lot of Windows laptops from Huawei, though, as the company is one of the few US-based businesses that can collaborate with the company. Although it is frequently criticized for its resemblance to Apple Macbook products, its laptops typically have good specifications.
Huawei’s well-rounded Matebook D 15 will be the subject of our examination today. It is a desired laptop, especially since you’re a part of the Huawei ecosystem, due to its sturdy aluminum construction, sophisticated fingerprint scanner, Full HD display, and 11th generation i5 processor. However, a few noticeable flaws make it difficult to suggest the laptop. They will be discussed in this review.
Design and Build
- 357.8W x 229.9D x 16.9H-mm, 1.56 kg
- All-aluminium build
Due to its all-aluminum design, the matebook d15 is a well-made laptop that feels solid and expensive. It is lightweight and easy to take about, fitting a 15.6-inch display into a 16.9mm-thick shell. When considering the little 65W Type-C charger they offer, Huawei’s emphasis on portability is more apparent. Overall, there should be no problems with build quality or portability.
On the Matebook D 15, the keyboard is functional and roomy. Although not a MacBook keyboard, the textured keys are nonetheless reasonably comfortable to type on. But for other folks, the lack of backlighting just on the keyboard can be a deal-breaker.
Display
- 15.6-inches FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS
- 250 nits brightness
When you consider the Matebook D15’s price in Nepal, the display is a little underwhelming. It also has poor color reproduction and can only reach a maximum brightness of 250 nits, which makes it challenging for me to use in brighter settings. The screen’s matte surface did, however, aid in lowering reflections and enhancing usability.
Unfortunately, despite the display’s 16:9 aspect ratio, the bottom bezel is still substantial. But for the price, I would have loved to see a 16:10 screen with a greater resolution.
Huawei ought to have attempted to imitate the superior audio system of the Macbook as well. Two bottom-firing speakers on the laptop have an acceptable sound quality at best. When placed on a solid surface, the speakers produce the clearest sound.
Performance
- Intel Core i5-1135G7
- 8GB LPDDR4X RAM, 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD
Performance-wise, the MateBook D 15 in my possession included an Intel Core i5-1135G7 processor together with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a 512GB NVMe PCIe SSD. Word processing, media consumption, & web browsing were all simple chores that went without a hitch. Regarding real-world use case scenarios, I have yet to experience any latency.
I could even use it for some simple photo and video editing. But it seems to reason that you wouldn’t want a gaming laptop with an integrated Intel GPU. Naturally, the Matebook D15 is not designed for that use. However, less taxing games like Valiant, CSGO, League of Legends, and others are simple to play at low settings.
However, if you’re a music producer, rest assured that FL Studio will function properly here. It has a single fan or a heat pipe for cooling, and the laptop runs quietly while you go about your daily business. The inbuilt cooling system also does a respectable job of controlling temperatures. But when there is a lot of work to be done, the fan does turn on.
