A house needs certain renovations and repairs from time to time. No matter how good a system is installed, it needs updating or renewal at least.
When electricity switches do not work well, we call an electrician, when water pipes and water connections pose a problem we call a plumber. Similarly, different problems have different experts.
However, even after being so much involved with them, we do not know the basic difference between them.
In this article, we will discuss the difference between a residential and a commercial plumber.
Residential Plumbing:
It refers to the field of plumbing that deals with plumbing problems at residences. The problems are small and are related to sewage lines, the drainage system of the house, and water connections.
The fix problems faced by households on a very small scale.
Commercial Plumbing:
It refers to the field of plumbing that deals with plumbing problems for businesses and huge residential complexes.
Their work is not only limited to looking after the connections but also to fixing the faucets, maintaining the water system, and waste removal.
Differences Between Residential And Commercial Plumbing Are:
1. Scope of work:
The scope of work of both the plumbing systems is different. Commercial plumbing is a more complex service, it deals with multiple urinals, toilets, a number of floors, and multiple washbasins.
In a nutshell, the scope of work in this kind of plumbing system is wide.
Whereas, the scope of work in a residential plumbing system is narrow. It is less complex and easy to handle. It often consists of one or two urinals, with limited washbasins, and usually a floor or two, such that can accommodate a single residential area.
2. Area of damage:
In commercial plumbing, the area of damage can be wide. This is because the area covered by such a plumbing service is wide. The connections of different complexes need to be checked to find the root of the problem.
In residential plumbing, one does not need to go into depth, the connections and lines are pretty clear, thus, the area of damage is small.
Besides, due to a larger area being covered under commercial plumbing, the probability of it getting damaged is more than that of a residential plumbing system.
One has to pay extra care and attention to the commercial system of plumbing over a residential system.
3. Health care laws:
A commercial plumbing system covers a wide area which is why it is not very hygienic. Plumbers who work under this system need to follow various rules and regulations of the organization for which they work.
This is not the case in the residential plumbing system. Houses are usually well-managed and are small in comparison to a commercial setup.
Thus, one does not have to be so stringent about the health care rules and regulations to that extent as the ones in commercial setup need to be.
4. Deadline framework:
Plumbers working under the commercial setup need to be very particular about meeting their deadlines on time. This means that the work assigned to them should be completed within the given stipulated time. Delaying the work can lead the business for which they work to losses or can cause legal litigation which every corporate body tries to avoid.
This binding does not exist for the plumbers working under the residential system.
The residential plumbers are not time-bound unless a situation requires their work to be completed within a particular time period.
5.Working hours:
The working hours for a plumber working in a commercial setup are fixed and are for around eight hours. This makes their working hours fixed. Their nature of work is a little more repetitive, thus, it requires their constant availability.
They work in shifts usually, so that at least one expert is available to manage the problem if any occurs.
This is not the case with plumbers in the residential plumbing system, they can work according to their time frame, and the only time they are bound with time is in case of emergency.
The nature of their work is not very complex, repetitive, or time-consuming, which allows them to work according to their suitability.
6. Area of usage:
The commercial plumbing system has wide use in the daily system. It includes the clients and employees in an office, customers in a restaurant, etc., thus, large water storage tanks are required.
Similarly, the drainage system also has to be very large keeping in mind the strength of the organization.
In the case of a residential plumbing system, only a family or two are the users of the system, which is way too small in comparison to an organization.
Thus, these were a few differences that we must know between a residential plumbing system and a commercial plumbing system.
