Should my floor be planed or sanded?
It is important to determine the condition of the floor. Are there large notches or deep scratches in it? Is there varnish or glue residue on the floor?
In this case, the floor must be planed before sanding. If the floor is without deeper scratches and nicks, then in many cases a floor sanding is enough.
When sanding, we simply remove a small part of the surface to clean it of old treatment, so that the floor is prepared for a new surface treatment.
Which finish best suits my floor?
Gulvkbh offers various treatments after sanding: lye, varnish, oil or soap treatment. The choice of finishing depends on your desires for functionality and appearance.
If you want a strong and smooth surface with a minimum of maintenance, you should choose a varnish treatment. We use a varnish that does not have as high a gloss, which gives the floor a more natural look.
The disadvantage of varnish is that scratches and discolorations cannot be washed away, which in some cases can be done with floors treated with lye, oil or soap. On lacquered floors, scratches and discolorations can only be removed with a new sanding and varnishing.
If you want a natural look, you should choose a finish with oil, natural lye or soap. Lye-treated and oiled floors are cleaned with special floor soap and must be cared for on an ongoing basis. The big advantage is that scratches and stains can often be removed by washing.
How long does a floor sanding take?
The duration of the task depends on the size and number of rooms, as well as how many coats of finishing to be applied. However, most tasks can be completed in two to three days.
When may I walk on the floor after sanding and treatment?
If the floor is lacquered, it can be walked on for a few hours after the last treatment. If the floor is treated with lye or oil, it must not be walked on until the next day.
When can I put my furniture in place?
You can put your furniture in place approx. 24 hours after last treatment. For lacquer treatment, however, there is a curing period of at least 3 days, during which no carpets or plastic may be laid on the floor.
